Over the last 8 years working with fitness business owners, I’ve observed that two similar businesses can have entirely different outcomes based on the mindset of the owner. Self development in everything from business, money, exercise and even happiness I’ve gleaned 13 vital takeaways from this observation and my personal development journey that I believe can transform how we approach life and business.
Here they are:
1. Asking for help is underestimated. If you are struggling with something reach out and ask someone who know or has been there. They might not have the answers but the action of asking will trigger some of your own answers and get you out of your own head and taking action.
2. Self-Care is Paramount: Looking after yourself, your energy levels, your sleep and your health is vital. If you don’t have kids you probably take this for granted. If you have kids then you’ll understand how valuable a commodity a good nights sleep is.
3. Choose Happiness: Happiness is always a choice. Mostly happiness is the difference between expectations and reality, but you can always choose to be happy or not happy at any given time.
4. Value the Tough Times: The lowest times in my life have directly led me to the happiest times in my life. If you are having a tough time right now with something onve you realise it’s just part of the journey of life then everthing is ok.
5. Confront Your Inner Critic: The voice in your head that tells you that you can’t do stuff or judges you. EVERYONE has that voice, but know this, the voice is not you, it’s not your reality, it’s there to protect you by holding you back and keeping the status quo the same so you stay safe. When you ignore it and move forwards, magical things happen.
6. Quiet Your Mind: You can quieten the voice by either drinking your face off (not recommnded) or by getting into a daily meditation habit. I recommend the latter. For me this is usually a workout in the gym and then meditate in the sauna or steam room after, but you can do that anywhere.
7. Delegation is Key: You can’t do everything in your business. There just isn’t enought time in the day. You CAN do anything but you can’t do everything. Learn to let go, delegate and trust others to do stuff. For me this is a still a huge work in progress.
8 Find Your Fun. For me if you follow me on social you’ll know my fun is Travel, Sports, Gigs and my family. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy (or girl)
9. Success Over Ego: Getting what you want is WAAAY more important than being right. Sometimes your ego needs to take a back seat, STFU and listen.
10 Integrity Over Wealth: Having integrity and living your values is more important than money IMHO. If you don’t know what your values are then I’d suggest starting to work on that. If you’ve ever done something for money that didn’t fit with your values or taken on a client who didnt feel like a good fit then you’ll know exactly what I mean here.
11. Always Question Your Beliefs: The only truth is what you believe. Whatever you believe about money, business, life, the goverment or covid or the moon landings is true. Learn to challenge your belief systems and look at the world with a different prespective. You just might find somethng you like.
12. Social Media Isn’t Reality: The world is not as polarising as Social Media will have you believe. There are extremes across arange of topics, but most people are in the middle, it’s just the extremes are shouting louder.
13. Avoid the Comparison Trap: Your friends on social media who feel the need to publicly profess their undying love for each other? You know the ones I mean. Their life is just one big ball of undeding bliss and happiness. Well they are the equivalent of the star striker your team has just signed and you look at the higlights reel on youtube and they look like a world beater, but the reality is vey different. Please don’t compare your life to these people. Comparison is the thief of joy.
Remember, your mindset is a powerful tool that can shape your reality. Harness it well.
